As we gear up for the centennial celebration of the IMA, we have an opportunity to reflect both on where our profession has been and where our profession is heading. As a profession, we have come very far from pure cost accounting, 13-column ledger paper, and green eye shades. Today, our conversations are filled with discussion of data analytics, robotic process automation, blockchain, and artificial intelligence. Increasingly our roles have moved from simply recording costs, although that remains an important component, to evaluating risk, developing strategy, and creating value.
In a similar vein, the focus of the chapter board of directors during our planning for the coming year has been on how we can better deliver value to our membership. As an organization, we exist to serve and benefit our membership. Toward this end, we have decided to move chapter meetings back to Lexington, which we believe is more centrally located, and closer to the majority of our chapter membership. We hope this will make attending our chapter meetings more convenient for our membership.
Beyond this, we are working to better connect with membership. The chapter recently launched a social media initiative, establishing pages on Facebook and Twitter. Please take a moment to like/follow one, or both; just search for IMA-Bluegrass on either platform. These are excellent resources for keeping abreast of what is happening in the chapter and the profession. Also, please let us know what is happening with you and your career. We would love to share the successes and achievements of our members with the broader membership (with permission, of course).
To close, this organization is about its members. As a chapter, we are here to serve our members. Toward that end, we want to hear from you. If there is something we can do better as a chapter, we want to know. Is there a topic you think would make a good presentation at a chapter meeting, we want to hear about it.
I like forward to continuing the discussion of how we can grow and improve as a chapter over this next year. Please feel free to contact me with any ideas, or concerns you have about the chapter. This is an exciting time to be a part of the IMA and will be a great year for the Bluegrass Chapter.
